Much to my surprise, the 2009 Rock and Roll Hall of fame induction ceremony is taking place this Saturday, April 4th.

Why am I surprised? Because it’s happening here in Cleveland!

That’s the first time since 1997!

Is that even fair? I mean, what else can Ohio be proud of besides rock? Unpredictable weather?

I had a chance to interview someone who works there a few weeks ago, and when I asked him why it’s been so long since an induction ceremony took place in Cleveland, he proceeded to tell me that in the eyes of the entertainment industry it just makes more sense to have it in New York.  What does that even mean?

After all, Ohio isn’t called the birthplace of rock n’ roll for nothing!

Bobby Womack, one of this years inductees knows that better than anyone else.  He’s a Cleveland native!

He also told me it’s mainly because the nominating committee is in New York.  Are they not mobile?

I don’t care that there’s 600 some people who vote! How does one even become a “rock expert” anyways?

Do colleges offer any classes for that? Because if so, I want in!

Just think how cool you would feel if someone asked you what you were majoring in and you could respond “rock n’ roll.”

the Two Amigos

Anyone remember that place? The quaint, little, hole-in-the-wall-feeling place? One of the great restaurants in Highland Square? the Two Amigos. Everyone said that when the Chipotle opened across the street, the restaurant would go out. We even predicted that in the newspaper.

I wish it hadn’t. Yes, I genuinely miss the Two Amigos. Don’t get me wrong, I am glad there is a chipotle nearby. But I also enjoyed having a nearby Mexican restaurant that was actually decent. Now I’m left driving up to Hudson to go to Luchita’s.

I love Luchita’s.

Two Amigo’s had the setting, though. The tables in the windows, the chips and salsa to snack on, the great location.

I wonder when something new will open up in the space. It’s still there, the daily special hanging in the window. The hours still posted.

It haunts me. Every time I walk past. I hope something new will open there, so the memories will fade.

I’m sorry, my two amigos. I’ll boycott Chipotle for you, even though it’s too late.

I just shed a tear. Really.

How to tweet, or, Twitter for dummies

So I feel like more and more people have been hearing about Twitter lately.

And that it gets a bad rap. Well, honestly, I think it’s just misunderstood. Yes, it’s essentially just the “status” part of facebook and yes, that is pretty much useless.

But that’s the glory of Twitter. No one actually uses it that way. Mostly, twitter is a “microblogging” platform, and there are tons of interesting people on the site. Honestly, I use my pretty much exclusively to “follow” people and companies I find interesting. For instance, Christopher Walken. His twitter is phenomenal, and pretty funny most of the time too. Check him out at http://www.twitter.com/cwalken. Other people on there range from Richard Dawkins, the well known atheist and author, to Ashton Kutcher. Oh,  and John McCain too.

Statuses on Facebook are sometimes irrelevant. Twitter is basically a community of people using the “status update” to do something useful, share information or just keep up with each other. Besides, with how complex Facebook keeps becoming, it’s nice to have a simple platform that allows you to keep in touch with friends.

Not that many of mine are on there, though.
